Don't Admire the Problem

A mentor once told me something that has stuck with me for years:

Meaning, if you see a problem, don’t just sit around talking about it. Try to fix it.

So I did. Or at least, I decided to try.

Over the last year, I’ve had a front row seat as my daughter started navigating the college recruiting process. And I’ll be the first to admit, I had absolutely no idea what we were getting into.

What schools should we be looking at? When can she contact coaches? Who should she email? What should she say? Did we follow up? Is the school a good academic fit? Does it have the right major?

And the question I kept asking myself: Are we doing this right?

Like most parents, I started trying to figure it out. Spreadsheets. Google searches. Bookmarks. Conversations with other parents and coaches. One website for this. Another website for that.

The information was out there. It was just everywhere.

At the same time, running a technology company has given me a front row seat to the impact AI is having on businesses, workflows and even simple everyday tasks. I’ve watched AI take complicated, time consuming processes and make them easier. I’ve seen what happens when you combine the right data with the right technology and give people a simple way to interact with it.

And I kept coming back to the same question: Why couldn’t we do that for college recruiting?

Not another database. Not another spreadsheet. Something that actually helps an athlete and their family figure out what to do next.

So, we started building. That’s how RecruitPathIQ came to life. And that’s how we built Chilly.

We’re not building RecruitPathIQ because I have college recruiting completely figured out. Trust me, I don’t. We’re building it because we’re living it.

I’m a dad trying to help my daughter chase a goal. I’m learning the process, asking questions and trying to make sure we don’t look back one day and realize we missed an opportunity because we didn’t know what we didn’t know.

And I know there are thousands of parents sitting at their kitchen table doing the exact same thing. Searching. Building spreadsheets. Trying to connect the dots. Wondering if they’re doing enough.

My hope is RecruitPathIQ makes the process a little easier. Less searching. Fewer spreadsheets. A little less stress. And a much clearer idea of what to do next.
